JACKSONVILLE, AL — Jacksonville State University will begin admitting students who complete Alabama’s Option B high‑school diploma pathway, following a vote of approval by the JSU Board of Trustees on April 15.
Option B, introduced statewide in 2022, lets students earn a high‑school diploma by pairing core academic requirements with industry‑recognized credentials and full‑time work‑based learning. Although it was designed to steer graduates directly into the labor market, the credential now opens JSU’s doors as well.
“Alabama’s Option B diploma provides another pathway for students to pursue their goals, whether that means entering the workforce or continuing their education,” said Jessica Wiggins, associate vice president of enrollment management. “Jax State is excited to offer admission to students who choose this pathway and support their continued academic success.”
JSU will admit Option B graduates who meet the university’s minimum grade‑point‑average standard, the same benchmark used for students holding the traditional Option A diploma. Once enrolled, Option B students will have full access to the Student Success Center’s professional advising, success coaching, tutoring and supplemental instruction.
“Jacksonville State is committed to serving all learners by offering multiple points of access to higher education,” said Dr. Christie Shelton, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. “Accepting both diploma options ensures we remain responsive to the evolving needs of Alabama students, families and school systems.”
