Jacksonville, AL — Jacksonville State University has named Corey Smith, a native of Ranburne and graduate of Ranburne High School, as the new head coach of the women’s soccer program. The university’s announcement marks a new chapter for Gamecock Soccer as the team enters its next phase of competition in Conference USA.
Smith, a 2013 graduate of Ranburne High School, brings extensive experience in collegiate soccer coaching. He began his collegiate playing career at Birmingham-Southern College, where he played from 2013 to 2017. After transitioning to coaching, Smith remained at Birmingham-Southern, eventually leading the women’s team in 2023. Under his leadership, the program achieved several milestones, including its first Southern Athletic Association (SAA) regular-season title in 2020 and an NCAA tournament appearance in 2022.
Following the closure of the Birmingham-Southern women’s soccer program, Smith joined Tennessee Tech University as an assistant coach. During his time there, the team secured the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title and led the league in goals scored.
Jacksonville State University officials emphasized Smith’s coaching credentials and alignment with the program’s goals. According to university leadership, Smith demonstrated a strong commitment to both athletic achievement and student-athlete development.
In addition to his collegiate experience, Smith has worked with Hoover-Vestavia Soccer of MLS Next and served with the Pele Academy, expanding his influence in youth soccer development.
Smith expressed appreciation for the opportunity to lead the program and is expected to begin his tenure immediately, preparing the Gamecocks for upcoming competition.
