Jacksonville State University’s Center for Economic Development and Business Research Drives Regional Growth Under Director Jennifer Green

Jax State's Center for Economic Development and Business Research Is Fueling Northeast Alabama's Progress

Jacksonville, AL – Jacksonville State University’s Center for Economic Development and Business Research, led by director Jennifer Green, plays a critical role in promoting economic progress and providing support to communities throughout northeast and east-central Alabama. Green, who has dedicated nearly 15 years to the center—over nine as director—oversees efforts that benefit a broad 15-county region including Calhoun, Chambers, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Talladega, Clay, Randolph, St. Clair, Cleburne, Cherokee, Blount, Etowah, Marshall, DeKalb, and Jackson counties, as well as the entire state.

Through data analysis, market research, and development planning, the center assists local governments and economic agencies, fostering growth and resilience across the region. “Our goal is to provide communities with the tools they need to thrive,” Green explains, underscoring the center’s commitment to supporting collaborative and forward-thinking initiatives.

The center’s influence extends into Jacksonville State University itself, benefiting both students and faculty. “We have two graduate research assistants that work for us,” Green says, adding that these roles offer hands-on experience in economic development. “Helping students is important to our mission, and it aligns with our AACSB accreditation.” By engaging in real-world economic projects, students gain valuable skills and insights, enhancing their readiness for the workforce.

Faculty also rely on the center for access to vital resources, particularly demographic data that aids in research and grant applications. “If faculty are applying for grants, they can contact us for regional data, which we can provide quickly,” Green notes. “We’re embedded in these communities, so we’re aware of local industry opportunities that faculty may not know about.”

Beyond regional impact, Green’s involvement on the Association for University Business and Economic Research (AUBER) board ensures Jacksonville State’s participation in national economic discussions, further elevating the center’s role in economic and academic circles.

Jacksonville State University’s Center for Economic Development and Business Research, under Green’s leadership, continues to bridge academic research and economic growth, advancing both community prosperity and educational excellence across Alabama.
