Jacksonville State’s Cocky Cookoff BBQ Competition and Festival Returns for 2024

Jax State Announces Return of Cocky Cookoff BBQ Competition and Festival

Jacksonville, AL – The Jax State Office of Alumni Engagement is excited to announce the return of the Cocky Cookoff BBQ Competition and Festival, set to take place on October 11-12, 2024, at the RV lot on Mountain Street. After a year-long hiatus due to campus expansion and construction, the event is back, promising to be bigger and better than ever.

The Cocky Cookoff will feature a non-sanctioned amateur BBQ competition where teams will compete for the esteemed Grand Champion Cocky Grill Master title, or participate in the Backyard BBQ division. The competition kicks off on Friday night, with teams preparing their entries for judging on Saturday.

Event Highlights:

  • Festival Activities: The community is invited to join the fun starting at 10:30 a.m. on October 12th. The festival will offer a classic BBQ atmosphere complete with samples, activities, and live entertainment.
  • Judging and Awards: BBQ entries will be judged at 11:30 a.m., with an awards presentation scheduled for around 2 p.m.
  • Cocky’s Chili Taste-Off: Participants can enter the Chili Taste-Off to compete for prizes and the coveted title of best chili recipe.
  • Help Pardon Chicken Patty: The Office of Alumni Engagement is seeking community support to petition for the pardon of Chicken Patty from this year’s competition. If the fundraising goal is met, Chicken Patty will receive a full pardon at 11 a.m. on October 12th, just before the BBQ judging begins. Donations to the 1883 Fund for Greatest Needs can be made through the event website to help meet this goal.
