Work Session

  1. Call to order
  2. Roll call – Council members Harrell and Suddeth were not in attendance.
  3. Acceptance of minutes – no comments
  4. New Fire Chief Job Description – No additional items to be added to the description. Item will be added to the agenda for tonight’s meeting.
  5. Residential Rental Unit Inspections – John Ashley (code official for the City of Gadsden) spoke on how Gadsden is incorporating the rental unit changes for residential properties and inspections. He spoke to the reasoning on changing and how the changes have impacted the city. The current Gadsden inspections code are more in line with what the City of Jacksonville is considering moving toward. This is still in the preliminary stages. No decisions have been reached and the council is still evaluating all options.
  6. Building Code – Mark Williams, Building Inspector for Jacksonville, spoke regarding the status update on the codes. He discussed how the changes that were submitted were decided upon. Work will continue to be done on the codes and updates will be given at applicable times.

  15. Public comments for general items
    1. Joe Donahue spoke. He is working on bringing a TV series to Jacksonville. He has lined up talent that includes an actor from the Walking Dead. He is drawing up a proposal to submit to the Mayor at a later time. He referenced Senoia, GA as a possible second shooting location and the financial impact the filming would have on the local economy.
  16. Council Member Remarks – Councilmen Taylor spoke regarding the promotion of two officers who received promotions with the Jacksonville Police Department. He wanted to congratulate the officers, the department, and Chief Wood on the promotions. (Note: The Jacksonville Journal will be doing a complete report on all of the promotions at the Police Department in the next few days).
  17. Mayor’s report
    1. The bike share program has launched through a partnership with VeoRide.
    2. Sunday, February 10, 2019 at 2:00 pm The Black History Month Program is being held at the Jacksonville Community Center
    3. Weather Preparedness was discussed for how transportation would occur to warming centers if needed
