ANNISTON, AL — Jakob Williamson has announced his candidacy for Calhoun County Revenue Commissioner and has stepped down from his position as Public Affairs Director for the Calhoun County Area Chamber and Visitors Center in order to focus on the campaign.
Williamson said his decision to seek the office came after weeks of prayer and conversations with family, friends, and community members who encouraged him to run.
“In order to give this campaign my full attention and to ensure a clear separation between my professional responsibilities and this race, I felt it was important to step aside from my role at the Chamber,” Williamson said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside dedicated staff, community leaders, and business owners throughout Calhoun County.”
In announcing his candidacy, Williamson emphasized the importance of the Revenue Commissioner’s role in county government.
“The Revenue Commissioner plays a critical role in ensuring taxes are assessed and administered fairly and consistently,” Williamson said. “This is an elected position for a reason. Taxpayers deserve a voice and someone directly accountable to them in this process.”
If elected, Williamson said his priorities would include maintaining accuracy in property and business tax assessments, ensuring consistent application of the law, and continuing to provide efficient and professional service to the public. He also stressed the importance of transparency and expressed respect for the employees of the Revenue Commissioner’s Office and the work they perform.
Williamson is a graduate of Ohatchee High School and the University of Alabama, where he earned a degree in political science and public policy studies. He has been active in local civic and business organizations and currently serves on the Alabama Republican Party State Executive Committee.
The Republican primary election for Calhoun County Revenue Commissioner is scheduled for May 19.
