Jacksonville, AL – Jimmy L. Harrell Jr. has officially announced his candidacy for Place 3 on the Jacksonville City Council, emphasizing a platform focused on community engagement, economic development, public safety, and sustainable growth.
A longtime resident and public servant, Harrell previously served on the Jacksonville City Council and brings over two decades of experience in local governance and civic involvement. He cites a continued passion for Jacksonville’s future and a commitment to addressing key challenges as the driving forces behind his decision to run.
“Jacksonville is a city rich in history and potential,” Harrell stated. “But like many communities, we face issues such as economic development, infrastructure needs, and the lack of access to healthcare. I believe I have the experience and the vision to help guide our city forward.”
One of Harrell’s primary concerns is the absence of a local hospital, following the closure of Jacksonville Hospital. He noted the impact this has had on emergency service personnel and the need for strategic solutions to improve healthcare access.
His campaign will also prioritize economic growth, with a focus on supporting local businesses and attracting new investment to the area. Harrell advocates for infrastructure improvements and initiatives aimed at removing barriers to business development, with the goal of enhancing quality of life for residents.
Public safety is another major component of his platform. Harrell plans to work closely with law enforcement and community partners to ensure Jacksonville remains a secure and thriving place for families.
In addition, he has expressed a strong commitment to sustainability and responsible resource use, proposing the development of green spaces and programs that promote strategic, environmentally conscious growth.
Harrell emphasized that community input will play a central role in his approach. “Effective leadership means listening and collaborating,” he said. “Transparency and accountability are essential to building trust and making lasting improvements.”
As the campaign progresses, Harrell aims to continue engaging with residents and outlining his vision for a more inclusive, vibrant Jacksonville.
