ANNISTON, AL — During a special session of the Anniston City Council held on June 9, 2025, Joe Harrington was officially sworn in as the new council member representing Ward 3. The swearing-in ceremony, administered by the Honorable Judge Sams, opened the evening’s proceedings and was attended by Harrington’s family, friends, and community members.
Harrington took the oath of office affirming his commitment to uphold the laws of the United States, the state of Alabama, and the ordinances of the City of Anniston. His appointment will remain in effect until the city’s next municipal election in November.
The session also included a moment of invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, before the council moved to official business.
One key agenda item was the approval of a motion authorizing the Anniston Fire Department to enter into an agreement with Sutphen Corporation for the purchase of a Sutphen SL100 heavy-duty 100-foot mid-mount aerial ladder truck. The new vehicle is expected to replace the city’s current ladder truck, which is over two decades old and no longer fully operational. Council members unanimously approved the purchase, citing the need to maintain adequate public safety capabilities.
The meeting concluded with the formal adoption of a resolution certifying Harrington’s appointment and a motion to adjourn.
