BERGEN, Norway — As orgianlly shared by Brett Buckner with with the JSu media department, in June, Michael Walker, a business instructor in Jacksonville State University’s Lyons and Company, Inc. Department of Management and Marketing, co-presented at the 2025 regional conference for the Association for Business Communication (ABC). He was joined by his wife, Dr. Angela Walker, an English professor at Talladega College.
Their presentation, “Building Rock-Solid Credibility for Managers to Enhance Their Business Communication,” drew an audience of international academics and scholars. The Walkers, who frequently present together as “Team Walker,” shared strategies aimed at strengthening communication practices for managers.
“It was an incredible experience,” Michael Walker said. “That was our first time going to Europe, and the presentation was received very well.”
The couple arrived in Norway several days early to explore the city’s architecture and landmarks. Dr. Walker emphasized how the trip offered a chance to represent Jacksonville State University on a global stage. “I wore my Jax State red,” she said. “It brings awareness. It brings worldwide attention. Then people see the logo, and it starts a real conversation. They get interested in our town and our culture. I definitely blow the trumpet about Jax State when I get a chance.”
For Michael Walker, the experience created an unexpected classroom connection. “When classes started, I actually had a student who was from Bergen, Norway,” he said. “I’ve got such a diverse group of students from all over the world, and this just gives us another connection.”
The Walkers’ participation in the ABC conference highlights not only professional collaboration between the two professors, but also the growing visibility of Jacksonville State University and Talladega College in international academic circles.
