Retired U.S. Marine Corps, Julie Borrelli is seeking the Republican nomination for the Alabama House of Representatives for District 40. Julie is the Finance Director for the City of Anniston.
While in the Marine Corps, she participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. She did multiple tours during her career including deployments to Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, Djibouti, and the Philippines as well as serving on the USS MAKIN ISLAND for a deployment cycle which conducted exercises in Jordan, Oman, Singapore, Malaysia and other locations.
According to a release, Borrelli is seeking office because she believes that the district needs someone that is willing to get out there and work but also someone that understands how legislation affects the district. She stated that “I have a unique skillset that allows me to look at proposed legislation from a financial perspective and from a legal perspective and I can take that knowledge and understand how it affects the county, the city, the business, and the individual in the district. Most candidates do not have that ability”.
Borrelli’s goals once in office revolve around economic development, quality education and mental health services in schools, supporting second amendment rights, and fighting federal government overreach.
One of Borrelli’s specific goals is to ensure that children have access to mental health professionals when they need it. It recently came to my attention that it can take months for a child that is suffering from depression and anxiety to get an appointment with a mental health professional. Time is different for children and months seem like forever to them, especially when they are struggling mentally.
Another goal of Borrelli’s is to make it easier for existing Alabama businesses to get economic incentives from state and local government. While startups are extremely important, our existing businesses could also use some help occasionally and some of our laws and the Alabama Code make that difficult.
When asked about how she would get things done as a freshman representative if elected she stated “You won’t find anyone more tenacious, driven, and hardworking. I don’t want to just sit back and watch other people write policy. I want to get in the trenches. My districts interests are my interests and I will fight unapologetically for what is best for my district and what is best for Alabama.”
Borrelli lives in Calhoun County between Oxford and White Plains. She and her husband, Brannon, have four boys that attend public school in White Plains Schools. Her husband works for Tree Solutions, which is a tree removal business that was started by his father over twenty years ago.
Some of Borrelli’s memberships include the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, Cleburne County Chamber of Commerce, National Association for Gun Rights, Calhoun County Republican Association, Cheaha Republican Women Association, Calhoun and Cleburne County Bar Association, Alabama Bar Association, and many others.
She has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science (California State University San Marcos), a Master of Arts in Human Resources Management and Organizational Development (National University), a Master of Science in Forensic Psychology (Walden University), and a Juris Doctor (Birmingham School of Law).
