Hewitt-Trussville erupts for 4 touchdowns after scoreless first half to dash Oxford’s flag football championship dream


TRUSSVILLE – Oxford made a goal line stand in the final minute of the first half to preserve a scoreless tie, but Hewitt-Trussville erupted for four touchdowns in the second half to hand the Lady Jackets a 25-0 loss in the semifinals of the inaugural girls flag football tournament.

The Lady Huskies will play Smiths Station in the first state championship game Dec. 1 at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. Smiths Station edged John Carroll Catholic 14-7 in the other semifinal.

It was the third time this season Oxford and Hewitt-Trussville have played. The Lady Huskies won the previous two games 14-6.

The Lady Jackets’ shut out Hewitt-Trussville in the second half of the first game and the first half of the second. They were looking to put those two halves together in the semifinals, but the Lady Huskies had other plans. [**read more]
