Oxford, Hewitt-Trussville meet for third time tonight for a spot in inaugural flag football state title game
FLAG FOOTBALL FINAL FOUR
Tuesday’s games
Smiths Station at John Carroll, 5:30 p.m.
Oxford at Hewitt-Trussville, 6 p.m.
The Oxford flag football team is looking to add more credence to the adage that claims it’s tough to beat a team three times in a season when it faces Hewitt-Trussville for a third time tonight with a berth in the state championship game on the line.
The Lady Jackets dropped a pair of 14-6 games to the Huskies earlier this season and are itching for the rematch at Hewitt at 6 p.m.
“You sit and think you’re 2-0 against a team in the semifinals, but do you feel good?” Oxford coach Wes Brooks said. “Yeah, you’re a little confident, but I kind of want to take the mentality that we’re that pest that’s just not going to go away.”
The survivor gets the winner of tonight’s other semifinal between John Carroll or Smiths Station in the first flag football state title game Dec. 1 in Birmingham’s Protective Stadium. [**read more]
