Anniston, AL – On Saturday, October 7th, at 8:00 am, adventure enthusiasts and trail runners will converge at the scenic Yahoo Lake in Anniston for an exciting event hosted by Lake Yahou 50k. This trail race promises an unforgettable experience in the heart of nature, set against the backdrop of the newly opened Lake Yahou, available for recreational use since May 2022.
The race offers multiple distances to cater to a variety of participants, making it accessible to both new and seasoned trail runners. The trail itself consists of non-technical, single-track dirt paths, albeit with the natural challenges of rocks and roots. This combination ensures an exciting yet runnable course.
Race Location:
– 370 Lake Yahou Rd, Anniston, AL 36205
Race Distances:
– 50K: Three loopty loops, with an elevation of around 3000 feet and a 10-hour cutoff.
– 10 Miles: One loop with some extra credit, an elevation of around 1000 feet, and a 4-hour cutoff.
– 5.5 Miles: Half the distance, one loop with approximately 551 feet of elevation and a 3-hour cutoff.
Aid Stations:
Two fully stocked aid stations will be strategically placed along the course. One will be at the start/finish area, and the other will be on the opposite side of the mountain at the other trailhead, approximately 3.8 miles from the start.
Participants who register by September 17th will receive a guaranteed T-shirt, with the option of selecting a female-style shirt. Keep in mind that shirt size cannot be guaranteed, so sizing up is recommended for those opting for the female cut. This year’s shirt will be a long-sleeve T-shirt.
One of the highlights of the event is the unique, handmade medals awarded to each finisher based on the distance they signed up for. Additionally, awards will be presented to the top three female and male finishers in both distances.
The race will culminate in a festive finish line celebration with music, food (including vegan options), and beverages. It’s an opportunity to relax and savor the accomplishment of completing this challenging trail race.
For participants’ convenience, packet pickup will be available at Mellow Mushroom in Oxford on Friday, October 6, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Race day packet pickup will also be provided at the start area from 6:45 am to 7:45 am for those who cannot make it on Friday.
