Lake Eufaula – Lakepoint State Park will once again welcome nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts to its signature event, “Fins, Feathers and Flowers,” set for Friday, March 28 through Sunday, March 30. The annual event is a celebration of Alabama’s rich biodiversity, featuring guided tours, expert-led lectures, hands-on activities, and breathtaking views of Lake Eufaula and Lakepoint State Park.
“The annual ‘Fins, Feathers and Flowers’ event features a wide variety of activities for wildlife enthusiasts,” said Alabama State Parks Director Matthew Capps. “Not only does the weekend give people the chance to hear from noted wildlife experts, but every attendee also gets the chance to experience Lakepoint State Park’s amazing natural beauty. It really is a must-see event for outdoor enthusiasts and anyone who loves conservation.”
The event begins Friday with a Conservation Fair, a social gathering, and a keynote presentation by Dr. Anthony Abbate, an Auburn University professor who will discuss the vital role of pollinators in ecosystems and agriculture. The night concludes with “Friday Night Under the Stars,” an astronomy program led by Alabama State Parks naturalists.
Saturday offers a variety of immersive field trips, including:
-
A guided boat tour of Lake Eufaula
-
A birdwatching excursion to the Eufaula Wildlife Refuge
-
An archery class at Lakepoint Community Archery Park
-
A “Live Birds of Prey” program, featuring glove-trained raptors
The evening’s keynote speaker, Ray Metzler, a retired Alabama Forestry Commission wildlife biologist, will share insights on Alabama’s diverse species and their ecological importance.
The weekend concludes Sunday with a guided field trip to the 1,550-acre Wehle Conservation Center in Midway, managed by The Forever Wild Land Trust.
The “Fins, Feathers and Flowers” event is made possible through a partnership between Alabama State Parks, Alabama State Lands, Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries, and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, all under the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Packages that include meals and overnight accommodations are available. The park is located at 104 Lakepoint Dr., Eufaula, Alabama.
“The annual ‘Fins, Feathers and Flowers’ event at Lakepoint ranks among the best events offered by Alabama State Parks every year, and we look forward to a great crowd again this year,” Capps added.
