Oxford, AL — On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, the Oxford community is invited to lace up their sneakers and show their support during the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with participants meeting at Simmons Park (400 Main Street, Oxford, AL 36203) at 8:30 a.m.ahead of the run’s start.
The Torch Run, a cherished tradition across the state, brings together law enforcement officers, support staff, and community members in support of Alabama’s Special Olympics athletes. Oxford’s leg of the run promises to be a morning of unity, purpose, and pride.
There is no registration fee to participate, but all runners are encouraged to purchase an official Torch Run t-shirt, which is required to take part. Shirts are available in both dri-fit and cotton styles for $15, with sizes XXL and up priced at $20.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is more than a fitness event—it is a powerful show of solidarity that supports athletes with intellectual disabilities. Proceeds from the t-shirt sales go directly to benefit Special Olympics programs across the state.
For additional information or questions, interested participants can contact Lt. Gerald Lyons of the Oxford Police Department at Gerald.lyons@Oxfordal.gov.
Join the movement on May 15 and help carry the torch of inclusion and hope for Alabama’s Special Olympics athletes.
