Anniston, AL – Legal Services Alabama (LSA) is offering a free community class to introduce Legal Compass AL, a new online tool designed to help individuals gain access to legal information and resources. The class will take place on Tuesday, September 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Anniston City Meeting Center, located at 1615 Noble Street.
Legal Compass AL, officially launching in September, is intended to assist Alabamians who may not qualify for free legal aid but still need support navigating civil legal issues. The tool guides users through a series of questions about their situation and creates an action plan, complete with recommendations, legal forms, and informational resources.
As part of its rollout, LSA is hosting in-person sessions across the state, including Anniston, Madison, Jasper, and Mobile. These classes will allow participants to learn how to use the platform and provide feedback on its accessibility and clarity. The sessions are designed for training and evaluation purposes rather than providing direct civil legal advice.
“Our LSA attorneys have developed 16 legal action plans that cover the legal areas with the greatest demand for client services,” said Guy Lescault, LSA executive director. “With the Legal Compass AL site launch this September, we hope that the site will help narrow the justice gap and increase access to justice for more Alabamians.”
Participants in Anniston’s class will have the opportunity to navigate the site in real-time with guidance from staff members. Upon completing a feedback survey, each participant will receive a Wal-Mart gift card as a token of appreciation.
“Legal Compass AL is an incredible resource for those who may not know where to turn for legal help,” added Lescault. “We encourage anyone in need of assistance or interested in learning more about their legal rights to attend this free class.”
The online tool will be available statewide at any time through legalcompassal.org, and is accessible on smart devices. Space at the Anniston class is limited, so attendees are encouraged to arrive before the 10:30 a.m. start time.
