Dear Editor,
“Every load of Downy can save you as much as $300.” Cue a laundry hamper filled to overflowing with greenbacks.
What if you wash the exact same clothes repeatedly as many low-income folks do? Are you saving $300 every time like the TV commercial says?
What if your Walmart clothing load only cost you $135 brand new? How could you possibly save $300 even once?
Poor folks are being targeted and duped by wealthy corporate America.
Even for expensive clothing, how do we know Downy caresses those fabric fibers so well that wealthy consumers get $300 worth of benefit even once, let alone multiple times?
American consumers no longer confront corporations and insist on honesty in advertising. If the poor are deficient in understanding, we are deficient in something just as bad—humanitarian values.
