Montgomery, AL – Young livestock exhibitors from across Alabama showcased their skills and dedication at the Jr. Livestock Expo Swine Show on March 14, held in conjunction with the Southeastern Livestock Exposition in Montgomery. Several competitors from Calhoun County earned top honors in the event, which was conducted by the Alabama Farmers Federation.
Madelyne Tallent of Calhoun County had a standout performance, earning Fourth Place Overall Crossbred Breeding Gilt and Fifth Overall Purebred Market Hog. Federation Executive Director Paul Pinyan presented the awards, with A.J. Genter of Ohio serving as the judge.
Local youth also excelled in the showmanship competitions, demonstrating their expertise in handling and presenting swine:
- Junior Showmanship: Hunter Smith of Calhoun County placed fifth, with the competition champion title going to Raiden Lovvorn of Randolph County.
- Intermediate Showmanship: Brooklyn Cobb of Calhoun County secured a fifth-place finish, while Rose Hodnett of Tallapoosa County claimed champion honors.
- Senior Showmanship: Calhoun County exhibitors dominated the division, with Madelyne Tallent earning champion, Addisyn Hammonds placing third, Bailey Brown finishing fourth, and Katelynn Dummar securing fifth.
The Alabama Farmers Federation and Alfa Insurance sponsored the annual contest, which provides youth with an opportunity to develop agricultural knowledge, leadership, and responsibility through livestock competition. Federation President Jimmy Parnell presented the showmanship awards.
The Jr. Livestock Expo Swine Show continues to be an important event for Alabama’s young farmers, helping them build essential skills while celebrating the state’s strong agricultural traditions.
