Talladega, AL – Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative (CVEC) has announced that Energy Services Representative Lucas Browning recently earned his Key Accounts certification from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), a professional credential recognizing advanced training in supporting large commercial and industrial members.
CVEC General Manager Jon Cullimore said the certification further strengthens Browning’s ability to serve the cooperative’s membership. “Lucas’ Key Accounts certification strengthens his already impressive skill set and enhances our cooperative’s ability to support the industries and businesses that drive our local economy,” Cullimore said. “He consistently demonstrates professionalism, dedication and a genuine commitment to serving our members. We are proud to have him on our team.”
To earn the certification, Browning completed online coursework, passed an exam, and submitted both a key accounts business plan and a member engagement plan. The training equipped him with knowledge in monitoring and supporting energy use, coordinating reliability needs, supporting economic development and resolving issues for large commercial members.
“This certification program builds on my ability to serve as a relationship manager, energy advisor and problem-solver to our largest customers,” Browning said. “It has strengthened my understanding of how to anticipate their needs, communicate proactively and help them make informed decisions that benefit their operations.”
Beyond his work with key accounts, Browning oversees several member-focused programs at CVEC designed to improve efficiency and support evolving energy needs. He leads the cooperative’s free energy audits for homes and businesses, providing members with assessments, recommendations and efficiency strategies.
“I conduct the audit and analyze the results,” Browning said. “I then recommend improvements or efficiency upgrades to help our members save energy and reduce bills. It is rewarding to see the real financial difference these changes can make.”
Browning also administers CVEC’s All-Electric Plug-in Vehicle Registration Rebate Program, which provides a $100 rebate for member EV owners, as well as the Manufactured Home Rebate Program, offering incentives for new manufactured homes with heat pumps or upgrades from electric furnaces to high-efficiency heat pumps. He additionally manages the Site-Built Home Rebate Program for homeowners installing dual-fuel or mini-split heat pump systems.
“Heat pumps deliver outstanding efficiency because they move heat rather than create it,” Browning said. “They offer reliable comfort year-round while lowering energy use. Helping members transition to these systems is a great example of how we can improve comfort and reduce costs at the same time.”
Browning said his work remains meaningful because of the members he serves. “I love working directly with our members to solve problems, offer guidance and help them understand their energy options,” he said. “I regularly have the opportunity to make someone’s life a little easier, and that’s what makes this work so meaningful.”
