Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in Calhoun County

Calhoun County, AL – A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of Mark J. Howell, 66, of Hokes Bluff, on Sunday, July 28. The incident occurred at approximately 4:18 p.m. on Alabama 9 near the 235-mile marker, about seven miles south of Piedmont.

Howell was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a ditch, and then collided with a tree. According to authorities, Howell was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. No further information is available at this time.
