Mathis, Sloughfy give Jacksonville first-place finishes. Oxford’s boys, Alexandria’s girls team champions.

MCCLELLAN — Rua Mathis and Rachel Sloughfy gave Jacksonville a sweep of individual champions, and Oxford’s boys and Alexandria’s girls took team titles in Thursday’s Calhoun County cross country championship.

Mathis finished in a course-record 15 minutes, 54.20 seconds, edging Alexandria’s Jayden Phelps by 12.33 seconds. Sloughfy set a 50-second personal best at 19:32.41 and crossed the finish line 22 seconds ahead of Alexandria’s JoJo Watson.

Oxford’s boys won their fifth county title in six years, and Alexandria’s girls won their second and their first since 2015.
