I have received several calls from members of the community asking me if I plan to run for District 3 Commissioner after seeing the announcement of Gary Sparks and his intent to run. It has been my intent to run for this seat for many years. Eli Henderson always told me that he would eventually pass the torch to me and he expressed the importance of taking care of each of the three communities in his district. Unfortunately his life came to an end far sooner than any of us anticipated and Ms. Henderson was adamant on finishing several of the tasks that Eli had already started. I told her that I would support her for as long as she wanted to serve.
That statement stands true today. She has done a great job for District 3 and our county and to this day she has not announced her intent to retire from her position. I intend to continue to support her in her role as County Commissioner until she chooses to retire. My focus right now is on Calhoun County Schools and doing everything in my power to make it the very best that we can. We have an awesome system and a great board.
At the point that Ms. Henderson chooses to retire whether that be at the end of the current term or many terms from now, I will then and only then announce my candidacy for District 3 Commissioner. I am prepared and ready to continue serving this great county. I look forward to carrying on the legacy of my good friend and mentor Mr. Eli Henderson. He was the one who convinced me to first run for board of education and I know that he would be happy to support me if he were still here with us today. I will make him, Ms. Henderson and the citizens of Calhoun County proud, when the time comes
*County Commissioner Carolyn Henderson spoke to the Calhoun Journal and wanted to stress the following to all her constituents: “Right now I am the County Commissioner for District 3 and will remain so until the time I decide not to run. At this time, no decision has been made.”
