Missing Woman’s Remains Identified in Anniston; Investigation Reveals Homicide

Anniston, AL – Miya Marshall was last seen in Anniston on Saturday July, 30, 2022. The Anniston Police department was notified by family of her missing status on September 8, 2022 and a full report and investigation was opened. During the course of the investigation there was no information that helped the investigators locate Marshall.

On May 15, 2023, the Anniston Police Department was dispatched to the area of 2600 Noble Street based on a report of the location of human remains. Upon arrival investigators were only able to locate the skull of a human and no other bones were in the immediate area. The skull was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville, AL for possible identification and cause of death.

On September 10, 2023 The Anniston Police Department issued the following press release:

“On May 15, 2023, at approximately 4:45 pm, Anniston Police investigators were called to the 2600 block of Noble St. about the discovery of a human skull. Investigators searched the area, and the search did not reveal any more bones.

Through continued investigation the skull was identified as Miya Marshall by DNA analysis. Marshall was reported as a missing person in Anniston on September 8, 2022. She was described as a black female 5’02” 169lbs and would have been 26 years old at the time of her disappearance. She was last seen in Anniston by a family friend.

Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, Huntsville, performed an examination on the skull and determined that Marshall’s manner of death was homicide. No further information will be released at this time.
