Four Monsters homer, and three pitchers combine for a shutout as Choccolocco Monsters shut out Gainesville GolDiggers on the road.

 

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Former Oxford standouts Trey Higgins and Hayes Harrison, Jacksonville State transfer Rashad Robinson and Jake Goolsby homered as the Choccolocco Monsters blanked the Gainesville GolDiggers 7-0 in Monday’s Sunbelt League action.

Goolsby hit a solo shot in the sixth inning to make it 3-0, and Higgins’ solo shot made it 4-0 in the seventh.

Robinson’s solo home run made it 5-0 in the eighth, and Harrison hit a two-run shot in the ninth.

Harrison has three home runs on the season. Robinson and Goolsby each have two home runs, and Higgins hit his first.

William Tarpley, Harris Burns and Grainger West combined for the shutout, spreading out eight GolDigger hits. Tarpley allowed five hits and three walks with three strikeouts in a six-inning start. Burns allowed a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings of relief, and West closed, allowing two hits with a strikeout in the ninth.

The Monsters (6-2) will play at Gainesville on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.

 


Haynes’ grand slam part of a big night as Choccolocco Monsters go on the road and beat Waleska Wild Things.

 

WALESKA, GA. — Hayes Harrison delivered the biggest blow as the Choccolocco Monsters won on the road Saturday.

The Oxford High grad’s grand slam helped the Monsters beat the Waleska Wild Things 9-6 in Sunbelt League action at Reinhardt University.

Harrison also hit a double.

Dawson Campbell had two hits. Oxford grad Trey Higgins, Jacksonville State transfer Rashad Robinson and Joshua Cooper added once apiece.

Howell Polk pitched five innings en route to the win. Thomas Ballard added three solid innings of relief, and Avery Brown got the save.

The Monsters (5-2) will continue their six-game road swing Monday, at Gainesville.
