ANNISTON, AL — A 32-year-old mother, Whitney Nicole Greene, has been arrested in connection with the death of her newborn after admitting to using fentanyl prior to a scheduled induction, according to local authorities. Chief Nick Bowles of the Anniston Police Department spoke with the Calhoun Journal, confirming that Greene, who was full-term pregnant, disclosed to medical staff at Regional Medical Center (RMC) during her intake for the scheduled induction that she had recently used fentanyl.

Greene’s baby was delivered via an unplanned C-section on February 17. Despite doctors’ best efforts to stabilize the infant after the delivery, the newborn did not survive. The baby’s body has since been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy, which is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Greene has been charged with chemical endangerment of a child. According to court records, the alleged drug use occurred on February 16, and Greene was arrested on February 18. She is currently being held on a $30,000 bond. Chief Bowles confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and the Calhoun County District Attorney’s Office has requested the autopsy results, which may lead to additional charges depending on the findings.

District Attorney Lynn Hammond’s Office will review the results once available and determine whether any further charges should be filed. As the investigation continues, Greene’s case remains under scrutiny, with the potential for additional legal action depending on the outcome of the autopsy.
