Ashland, AL – On Saturday, the Hatchet Creek Punishers LEMC, alongside fellow motorcycle clubs from across the region, gathered in Ashland to honor the memory of Brendan Karr, known to many as ‘One Time.’ The event, held in his remembrance, also served as a fundraiser to support his family.
Brendan Karr tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident a year ago. His father, Paycheck, a member of the Hatchet Creek Punishers LEMC, spoke about his son’s impact. “He was a member of our chapter. He was my son. This is his wife, my daughter. This is his youngest daughter, Ellie May. This is his son, Oakley. This is his mother, Gemma. His wife, Valentina. His brother, Diesel and his sister Octavia. He got killed in a motorcycle accident a year ago this past Monday. And we’re doing this in memorial of him to support his family. We appreciate everybody coming out to help.”
The event was filled with stories and cherished memories of ‘One Time.’ Riders recalled his passion for the open road, the simple joy of riding up to Cheaha Mountain with friends, and his culinary skills. “He made the best omelets in the world,” one attendee fondly shared. Another added, “And the best steak. Just anything he cooked was good.”
More than his cooking, Brendan Karr was remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his family and club. “His love, and that he was such a part of us,” a family member shared. “Family was so important to him, and this club was so important to him. Each and every one of these people here are the ones he loved the most and gave the most love and care to. He was such a loving and gentle person. And he was 26. He was also in the military.”
The memorial ride in his honor took participants on a scenic route to one of Cheaha’s lookouts, where a group photo was taken before returning to the event site. Paycheck reflected on the significance of the gathering: “I know he would be smiling right now, seeing all these bikes out here. We love him and miss him, and you can see the people here love and miss him. He was a special part of our hearts.”
As the day came to a close, the sentiment was clear—Brendan Karr’s legacy of love, loyalty, and brotherhood lives on in the hearts of his family and fellow riders. “It’s been a long day without you, my friend,” Paycheck said, echoing the emotions felt by all. “And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again.”
