Cleburne County, AL – A high-speed, multi-county pursuit that began late Friday night in Georgia ended just north of White Plains, Alabama, with the arrest of a Heflin man now facing multiple felony charges.
The chase began around 10:30 p.m. on April 11th, when officers with the Tallapoosa Police Department in Georgia attempted to stop a vehicle. The suspect, later identified as 44-year-old Alex Potts of Heflin, Alabama, fled the scene, prompting a pursuit that crossed state lines and involved several law enforcement agencies.
Once in Alabama, the chase involved the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office, Heflin Police Department, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. Potts was ultimately taken into custody without further incident in Calhoun County.

Cleburne County Sheriff Jon Daniel praised the swift coordination among departments. “This case is a strong example of how multiple jurisdictions working together can safely bring a dangerous situation to an end. We’re committed to keeping our communities safe and holding those who break the law accountable,” he stated.
Potts is currently being held at the Cleburne County Jail. His total bond has been set at $328,000, with No Bond assigned for the Fugitive from Justice charge. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
