Jacksonville, AL – In a collaborative effort between the City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville State University, the recently completed gate project at Chimney Peak is set to enhance security measures and regulate access to one of the community’s most picturesque locations.
Beginning operation on Monday, Feb. 12, the joint initiative aims to address concerns related to overnight access, minimizing the potential for vandalism at the Chimney Peak site. The gate will automatically open each day at 5 a.m. and close promptly at 9 p.m., providing the community with a reliable way to manage entry during designated hours.
To ensure the smooth functioning of the gate system, organizers have implemented a failsafe mechanism for individuals who find themselves behind the gate after the 9 p.m. closure. In such instances, pulling up to the gate will trigger an automatic opening; however, new entrants will be denied access. Additionally, camera monitoring will be in place to discourage any intentional violations of the closing hours.
The public is encouraged to continue enjoying the scenic overlook during the specified operating hours. To assist with compliance, prominent signage will be installed along Mountain Street, notifying drivers to turn around after operating hours to avoid any inconvenience.
Property owners in the vicinity are urged to engage with the police department to secure gate access. Those who have not yet been in touch are encouraged to call the Jacksonville Police Department at 256-435-6448 to facilitate the necessary arrangements.
The completion of the Chimney Peak gate project represents a significant step forward in preserving the natural beauty of the area while simultaneously safeguarding it against potential misuse. By implementing these measures, the City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville State University aim to foster a sense of community responsibility and ensure the sustained enjoyment of Chimney Peak for generations to come.
