Anniston, AL – The Anniston Police Department and the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Department are expanding their use of drone technology through support from Norfolk Southern’s Safety First grant program, according to information released by the agencies.
The new drone initiatives are designed to improve search and rescue operations, strengthen real-time incident response, and enhance officer safety during emergency situations.
Officials said the technology will help provide faster aerial visibility during incidents, allowing first responders to better assess scenes and coordinate resources. Drones can also assist in locating missing persons, monitoring large areas, and responding to situations that may otherwise place officers or deputies in potentially dangerous conditions.
The departments recently launched the expanded efforts as part of ongoing investments in modern public safety tools and emergency response capabilities.
Law enforcement agencies across Alabama and the country have increasingly incorporated drone technology into daily operations for uses ranging from traffic accident reconstruction and disaster assessment to criminal investigations and search operations.
Norfolk Southern’s Safety First grant program supports projects focused on improving safety and emergency preparedness in communities served by the railroad company.
Local officials said the added drone capabilities are expected to improve response efficiency while giving officers and deputies additional situational awareness during active incidents.
