Thursday softball: Arnold pitches White Plains past Hokes Bluff; Alexandria blanks Oxford; Ohatchee, PV, Weaver score one-run wins

HOKES BLUFF – Leighton Arnold struck out 12 in 4 2/3 innings of perfect relief and Adriana Sotelo homered to lead White Plains over Hokes Bluff 5-2 in softball Thursday.

Arnold entered the circle right after the Lady Eagles tied the game 2-2 on Abby Payne’s RBI double and didn’t give up anything. At one point, she struck out eight in a row.

The Lady Wildcats gave her a 4-2 lead in the fifth on Callie Richardson’s fielder’s choice and Emma Howard’s RBI single. Sotelo homered in the seventh.

WEAVER 4, SAKS 3: The Lady Bearcats carried a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh and then held on after Saks rallied and had the tying run at third with one out. Camrie Denham’s two-run double made it 4-3 with none out in the seventh, but Kynlee Fulmer got out of it and got a complete game.

Alana Cooper and Madison Atchley both had two hits for Weaver.

OHATCHEE 7, ASHVILLE 6 (9 inns.): Kylee Barnes slammed a 1-2 pitch deep to left with one out in the ninth inning to snap a 6-6 tie and Lexi Thomas set Ashville down in order in the bottom of the inning to nail down the victory.

The Lady Indians took a 6-5 lead with four runs in the fifth, but Ashville tied it in the bottom of the inning.

Alanah Fitch drove in two runs and joined Ellie Carden, Hannah Fitch, Barnes and Tabi Davidson with having two hits for Ohatchee. Thomas pitched 4 2/3 innings of two-hit shutout relief to get the win.

Rachel St. John and Ashlynn Layfield each had three hits for Ashville, while Juli Mostillo and Annalynn Williamson both had a pair of RBIs.

PLEASANT VALLEY 6, HANDLEY 5: The Lady Raiders pushed across three runs in the sixth with the benefit of only one hit to take a 6-2 lead, then held on as Handley scored three in the seventh.

Macey Roper went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for PV, while Haylie Lee and Madyson Cromer had two hits apiece. Ava Hill went 4-for-4 for Handley.

PV extended a 3-2 lead in the sixth on Roper’s BRI single, Rylee Haynes’ RBI ground up and Roper was scored Roper broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI single.

ALEXANDRIA 10, OXFORD 0: Ashley Phillips went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Jill Cockrell and Christian Hess had two hits apiece.  [*** read more]
