ANNISTON, AL — A 33-year-old Ohatchee man was killed early Sunday morning after a high-speed crash at the intersection of Hubb Street and McClellan Boulevard in Anniston.

Authorities identified the driver as Tevin Riggins of Ohatchee. The crash happened around 1:15 a.m. when the 2025 Nissan Altima he was driving struck a traffic signal pole in the median while traveling north on McClellan Boulevard.

Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown spoke with the Calhoun Journal and stated, “Riggins was pronounced dead at the scene of a single car motor vehicle crash at 02:17 a.m.”

Officials said the impact caused significant damage to the traffic signal structure, including the base and anchor bolts supporting the pole. The damaged area around the signal has since been secured with traffic cones while crews evaluate repairs.

Although the intersection remains open to traffic, drivers are being urged to use caution when traveling through the area and remain alert for work crews and temporary traffic control devices.

Because the signal is maintained through state transportation crews, repairs may take additional time before the intersection is fully restored. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible until repairs are completed.

The crash remains under investigation.
