Oxford, AL – Yellow Jackets show strength across most events, withstand challenge from Anniston to win sixth Calhoun County track title in a row

Oxford’s dominance of Calhoun County boys’ track showed through again Wednesday, and it survived a stiff challenge from Anniston.
Dominating in distance events as well as usual competitiveness in sprints and jumps, the Yellow Jackets beat second-place Anniston 214.5-153 at the county championships at Choccolocco Park.
Oxford’s won its sixth county title in a row and third in a row under current head coach Landon Delozier. Oxford’s boys and girls swept for the second year in a row.
Team results were as follows: 1. Oxford 214.5, 2. Anniston 153, 3. White Plains 56, 4. Jacksonville 51, 5. Ohatchee 49, 6. Alexandria 39.5, 7. Weaver 32, 8. Pleasant Valley 27, 9. Piedmont 23, 10. Wellborn 18, 11. Faith Christian 15.5, 12. Saks 14.5, 13. Donoho 9.
“Results speak for themselves,” Delozier said. “Six consecutive years is absolutely phenomenal.
“I was able to step in after Coach (Lydia) Burgess, who kind of set the program for me, with the success that they had. I was able to put my little twist on it, especially with the distance program.”
Senior Noah George scored victories in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs and took second to teammate Evan Somers in the 800, scoring 28 individual points. Both were also part of Oxford’s first-place 4×800 relay team.
“Noah had four medals around his neck today, and only one of them was silver,” Delozier said.

4x800m Relay – Oxford (Evan Somers, Noah George, Case Payne, D.K. Wilson) took first place in 8:36.13, followed by Anniston in 8:41.86 and Piedmont in 8:56.25.
110m Hurdles – Weaver’s Keyshawn Allen (15.71) wins, followed by, Oxford’s Christian Gibson (16.16) and Kendrick Croft (16.51).
100m – After a misfire forced a restart, Anniston’s Jayden “J-Money” Lewis, an Auburn commit in football, finished first in 11:16. In second was Oxford’s Latreveon Figgers (11.31), and Oxford’s Antonio Hicks (11.32) was third.
1,600m – Oxford took all three medal positions. ‘Noah George won in 4:42.00, followed by Evan Somers (4:46.91) and Isaac Williams (4:46.97).
Javelin – Oxford’s Darrell Gooden throws 154-09 to take gold. Wellborn’s Grayson Johnson (144-04) was second, followed by Alexandria’s Caleb McCain (137-08).
4x100m – Oxford (Latreveon Figgers, Antonio Hicks, Cedric Twyman and Ashton Mitchell) dominates in 42.24 for a new meet record, followed by second-place Anniston (43.19) and Jacksonville (43.18).
Long jump – Anniston’s Malachi Taylor flies 23-10 for a meet record, followed by Anniston’s Javen Croft (22-3.5), who and Oxford’s DeAndre Archie (22-1).
400m – Anniston’s Keddrick Jordan (50.342) won, followed by Oxford’s D.K. Wilson (50.347). Annston’s Jayden Heard (51.73) was third.
300m Hurdles – Tyshaun Cameron gets Jacksonville a gold medal in 42.76. Weaver takes silver and bronze with Keshawn Allen (42.77) and Kaden Gooden (43.97).
200m – There goes that man again, with Anniston’s Jayden Lewis winning in 22.54. Oxford’s Antonio Hicks (22.93) takes silver, and Oxford’s Cedric Twyman (23.17) gets bronze.
800m – Oxford’s Evan Somers wins in 2:05.76, and Noah George (2:07.67) and Case Payne (2:08.78) make it a Yellow Jacket medal sweep.
Shot put – White Plains’ Brandon Hahm brings the power with a gold-medal throw of 45-01. Anniston’s Tyrone Wysinger (42-00.5) takes silver, and Pleasant Valley’s Zeke Curvin (40-08) gets bronze.
3,200m – Oxford’s Noah George adds to his big day, taking gold in 10:43.01. Teammate Isaac Williams (10:58.77) takes silver, and Pleasant Valley’s Alec Vess (11:11.53) takes bronze.
4x400m – Anniston (3:29.31) takes gold, followed by Oxford (3:34.49) and Jacksonville (3:39.48).
Triple jump – Anniston’s Malachi Taylor (47-02.00) sets the meet record, followed by Oxford’s DeAndre Archie (43-07.25) and Anniston’s Javen Croft (43-00.50).
Pole vault – Ohatchee swept … Chris Ferguson (13-0), Ethan Wiggins (9-0) and Colby Hester (9-0).
High jump – Piedmont’s Ishmel Bethel (5-10.0) takes gold, followed by Anniston’s Javen Croft (5-08.00) and Alexandria’s Damarkus Williams (5-08.0).
Discus – Ohatchee’s Tyler Waters took first at 122-05, followed by teammate Luke Vinson (121-04) and Donoho’s Walker Bodiford (118-10).
