Oxford City Council Holds June 24 Meeting, Approves Property Sale and Upcoming Public Hearings

Oxford, AL – The Oxford City Council convened its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The meeting opened with a welcome and invocation by David Harmon of Meadowbrook Baptist Church, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Council members approved the minutes from the June 10 meeting before moving on to new business. Ordinance No. 2025-31, which declared real property located at 0 Second Avenue (Parcel ID 64171) as surplus and authorized its sale, passed unanimously with a 5-0 vote.

The Council also approved the consent agenda by a 5-0 vote. This included:

  • Placement of municipal liens on seven properties for the amount of $184 each, located at:

    • 25 Main Street

    • 1515 Forney Street

    • 490 Ina Lane

    • 32 Dessie Circle

    • 225 E. Oak Street

    • 940 Pinecliff Drive

    • 36 Lindy Lane

  • Rescinding Resolution No. 2025-41 and approving the purchase of a Caterpillar 225 Compact Track Loader for Cider Ridge Golf Course at a total cost of $71,969.12.

  • Authorizing the next council meeting to be held on July 8, 2025, at the Oxford Performing Arts Center.

Additionally, the Council set public hearings for July 8 to review several zoning requests previously considered by the Oxford Planning Commission. These include:

  • Rezoning requests by the City of Oxford for properties at 323 McKibbon Street, 400 McKibbon Street, and 401 W. Oak Street from Residential 1 District (R-1) to Institutional District (INST).

  • A rezoning request by Brenda Benefield to change the designation of property at 49010 Alabama Highway 21 from Agricultural District (AG-1) to Garden Home District (GH).

The meeting concluded with remarks from the council and mayor. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the Oxford Performing Arts Center.
