Oxford, AL –The Oxford City Council held a brief and efficient meeting on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Oxford City Hall, with council members Charlotte Hubbard, Mike Henderson, and Steven Waits present. Council members Chris Spurlin and Phil Gardner were absent.
The planning session preceding the meeting included a brief discussion about a solicitation license request from Green Way Pest Control. However, with no representative from the company present, the topic did not proceed further.
During the regular meeting, the council took action on several ordinances and resolutions:
-
Ordinance 2025-36, which proposed maintaining the west end of Choccolocco Street as a one-way, was defeated in a 0-3 vote. This vote effectively rescinds Ordinance 2023-23, reverting the street to its previous traffic designation. The council clarified that the result keeps the street as a one-way as currently designated.
-
The Consent Agenda was approved unanimously (3-0) and included:
-
Resolution 2025-62, declaring various vehicles and equipment as surplus and authorizing their sale or disposal.
-
Resolution 2025-63, amending the FY 2025 budget to allocate $1,714.00 in proceeds from the city’s July 4th Car Show to Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes & Family Ministries. The funds were originally intended for the organization but had been mistakenly deposited into city accounts.
-
Resolution 2025-64, approving a $287,658.20 equipment purchase for Cider Ridge Golf Course.
-
A public hearing was set for the next regular council meeting on August 12, 2025, to consider a zoning request from Buford and Teresa Crosson. The request involves rezoning property at 6037 Alabama Highway 202 from General Business District (GB) to Residential 1 District (R-1), following the Oxford Planning Commission’s review on July 1.
The meeting opened with an invocation by Rev. Allen Brown of Antioch Baptist Church and closed without visitor comments. Mayor Alton Craft and present council members shared brief remarks before adjournment.
