Oxford, AL – The Oxford City Council held it’s regularly scheduled meeting on June 28, 2022.

  • Welcome/Invocation –  Horace Carson, Antioch Baptist Church

  • Approval of Minutes of June 14, 2022
  • Old Business
    • Ordinance No. 2022 – 27 – Ordinance rezoning property located at 0 U. S. Highway 78 W. (Parcel #2207350004039000) from Residential 1 District (R-1) to Residential 2 District (R-2) (Second Reading)
      • No motion so ordinance will die. 
  • New Business
  • Consent Agenda – Unanimously Approved
    • Resolution No. 2022- 69 – Resolution declaring certain vehicles/equipment surplus and authorizing their sale/disposal.
    • Resolution No. 2022- 70 – Resolution authorizing the conversion of unused sick leave to retirement service credit.
    • Resolution No. 2022- 71 – Resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Land Lease Application with Norfolk Southern Corporation for the purpose of maintaining the Norfolk Southern Railway Line right-of-way that runs through downtown Oxford.
    • Resolution No. 2022- 72 – Resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute Community Showcase LLC for banners.
  • Council Comments/Reports
    • Councilmen Spurlin wanted  to recognize the sister city of Munford’s Fire Department who was present to take position of one of the surplus fire trucks.
  • Mayor’s Comments
    • The Mayor wanted to remind everyone of the Freedom week and all the various activities coming up. HE also mentioned the USA Women’s Softball round robin that is upcoming with tickets on sale for only $20.
  • Set Public Hearings for July 12, 2022, to consider the following requests which were approved by the Oxford Planning Commission at their June 7, 2022 meeting:
    • Zoning request from Gordon McGrue to rezone property located at 8 Main Street from Residential 1 District (R-1) to Neighborhood Shopping Center (NSC)
    • Zoning request from PAC Enterprises LLC (Stan Bush) to rezone property located at 134 Mattison Road from Residential 2 District (R-2) to Planned Development 3 District (PD-3)
  • Visitors
    • Gary Sparks wanted to thank Munford Fire Department for being partners with Oxford Fire Department and then introduced the Munford Fire Chief who thanked Oxford and the Council for their donation. He stated they replay appreciated it.
  • Motion to adjourn (next regular Council Meeting, July 12, 2022) – Unanimously Approved
