Oxford, AL – The Oxford City Council convened on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Council member Steven Waits was not present.
Recognitions and Proclamations
The evening began with recognition of the Oxford Maintenance Department. Historic Main Street Oxford Director Hunter Gentry presented the Main Street Hero Award to Justin Abernathy, Mason Yates, and Jonathan Nelson for their work maintaining city properties, repairing traffic lights, installing seasonal decorations, and keeping public spaces safe and welcoming. Abernathy accepted the award on behalf of the team.
The council also issued proclamations honoring Constitution Week, observed nationally from September 17–23, and Find the Good Day, scheduled for September 18. Representatives from the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Junior League were present to accept the proclamations.
Zoning Decisions and Ordinances
The council held public hearings and approved four rezoning ordinances by a 4-0 vote:

70 Mamie Drive, rezoned from General Business District (GB) to Agricultural District (AG).

405 Dodson Street, rezoned from Planned Development District (PD) to Residential 2 District (R-2).

700 Hale Street, rezoned from Residential 2 District (R-2) to Planned Development 3 District (PD-3).

786 Peaceful Valley Road, rezoned from Residential 1 District (R-1) to Agricultural District (AG).
In addition, Ordinance No. 2025-43 was approved 4-0, establishing a local excise tax and requiring business licenses for the sale of consumable vapor products within the city limits.
Consent Agenda
The consent agenda also passed unanimously (4-0), including:

Resolution 2025-75: Agreement with ALDOT for widening and improvements on Friendship Road.

Resolution 2025-76: Amendment for Easement Acquisition Services with Three Notch Group totaling $22,225.

Resolution 2025-77: Agreement with East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission for Fixed Route and ADA Paratransit Services for FY2025.

Resolution 2025-78: Marketing License Agreement with Oxford Mall, LLC to host a fishing tournament angler meet-and-greet event on September 24, 2025.
