Oxford City Council Tackles Budget and Bond Projects in September Meeting

Oxford, AL – The Oxford City Council held its regularly scheduled work session and city council meeting on September 24th, 2024.

During the Oxford City Council Work Session on September 24, 2024, the following detailed points were discussed:

  1. Budget:  The council reviewed the proposed Fiscal Year 2025 budget and were informed it is balanced and highlighted that employees will not see an increase in their insurance payments.
  2. Bond Issue Details: Mayor Alton Craft reviewed some of the planned capital projects that will be covered by the next bond issue. Those include new buildings for the EMS and animal control, and new HVAC systems for the Oxford Public Library and the Oxford Performing Arts Center.

    • The meeting was called to order, and Rusty Stephens from Bettaview Hills Church of God provided the invocation.
  • Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
  • Approval of Minutes: The minutes from the September 10, 2024, meeting were approved without amendments.
  • Old Business: There was no old business to discuss.
  • New Business:
    • Ordinance No. 2024-28: Ordinance amending Chapter 24 – Municipal Court of “The Code of Ordinances” of the city of Oxford, Alabama.
    • Consent Agenda:
      • Resolution No. 2024-93: Resolution awarding the bid for traffic striping purchases for Fiscal Year 2025 to Ozark Striping.
      • Resolution No. 2024-94: Resolution approving the Fiscal Year 2025 budget.
      • Resolution No. 2024-95: Resolution to amend the Fiscal Year 2024 budget in the total among of $1,000 for an appropriation to the DEF Fishing Tournament for veterans and children in November 2024.
      • Resolution No. 2024-91: Amended the FY2024 budget to include $1,999.19 for travel expenses for the Oxford Municipal Court.
  • Council Comments/Reports: Council members did not provide any additional reports or comments.
  • Mayor’s Comments: The Mayor did not provide additional comments.
  • Visitors: No visitors spoke during the meeting.
  • Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned, with the next regular Council meeting scheduled for October 8, 2024.
