Hayes Harrison had two doubles and an RBI, and four pitchers combined for a three-hitter as the Choccolocco Monsters beat the visiting Atlanta Blues 9-2 in Friday’s Sunbelt League action at Choccolocco Park.
The game marked the Monsters’ first at home since June 8, ending a six-game road swing. They improved to 7-3 on the season and hold a half-game lead over the Alpharetta Aviators and Waleska Wild Things atop the Sunbelt League standings..
Harrison was 2-for-3 on the night and scored a run. He upped to 12 RBIs on the season, third best in the Sunbelt League, according to league statistics.
Jake Goolsby and Mason Walker each had a single and an RBI, and Cole Tremain tripled and scored a run.
On the mound, starter Howell Polk allowed one hit, one earned run and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings. Thomas Ballard pitched two scoreless innings in relief, and Griff Minor and closer Avery Brown each worked a hitless inning of relief.
The Monsters play host to the Blues on Saturday at 6:05 p.m.
