Oxford, AL – The City of Oxford and Oxford Fire Department have released that the Oxford Fire Department is working the scene of a house fire on Boozer Drive. At this time it is confirmed there is one fatality. Please avoid this area while first responders are on scene. More information will be released soon.
Update: The Oxford Fire Department received a call on February 7, 2023 at 6:19 am to a structure fire located at 814 Boozer Drive in Oxford. First arriving units reported heavy fire and smoke consuming over half of the structure. Oxford Fire Department personnel entered a window on the opposite end of the structure to search for survivors. Due to the changing fire conditions OFD personnel were forced out of the structure and went on a defensive attack until the fire was under control.
There were six occupants inside the home at the time of the fire. Oxford Fire department was able to immediate;y account for five. OFD personnel re-entered the structure when conditions allowed and found the body of the sixth person deceased. The name of the victim will not be released at this time. This is pending notification of the next of kin by Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Oxford Fire Department, Oxford Police Department, and the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s office per Oxford Fire Chief Gary Sparks.
