Oxford Gears Up for 3rd Annual Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Walk

Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Walk

Oxford, AL – The Parkinson’s Foundation Gulf Coast Chapter is gearing up to host its 3rd Annual Moving Day Northeast Alabama Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Walk, set to take place on Saturday, November 4th, 2023, from 9 am to 11 am. This free and engaging event will unfold at the Oxford Civic Center, located at 401 McCullars Lane, Oxford, AL 36203. Attendees can look forward to a morning filled with activities, information, and opportunities to support a worthy cause.

The event promises an array of activities and opportunities for attendees to get involved. Guests can register for door prizes, explore vendor offerings, gain insights into Parkinson’s resources available in Northeast Alabama, and visit the kids’ zone, where even the youngest participants can be part of this important cause.

A significant and heartfelt moment of the event will be the “We Move” ceremony. This ceremony is a time for reflection, as it allows participants to recognize those living with Parkinson’s, remember those who have lost their battle with the disease, and honor the caregivers who dedicate their lives to supporting individuals with Parkinson’s. “We Move” underscores the importance of raising awareness about the far-reaching impact of Parkinson’s Disease, emphasizing that it can affect individuals at any stage of life. This solemn and unifying event will serve as a reminder of the ongoing fight against Parkinson’s.

The highlight of the morning will be the mile-long walk around Oxford Lake. This symbolic walk is not only a show of solidarity but also a testament to the determination of those affected by Parkinson’s and their supporters to keep moving forward, regardless of the challenges they face.

Beyond its role in raising awareness, the event serves as a fundraiser for the Parkinson’s Foundation Gulf Coast Chapter. The funds generated through Moving Day will be directed toward advancing cutting-edge research, enhancing care, and supporting education programs aimed at improving the quality of life for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and their families in the Gulf Coast Region. It’s worth noting that since 2011, Moving Day events nationwide have collectively raised more than $40 million, contributing significantly to the Parkinson’s Foundation’s mission of making life better for those with PD.

Last year’s Moving Day Northeast Alabama event saw the community rally together to raise an impressive $30,000 for this vital cause. This year, the Parkinson’s Foundation Gulf Coast Chapter hopes to surpass that achievement and make an even more significant impact in the fight against Parkinson’s Disease.
