Oxford, AL – Oxford Police Department announced that officers have apprehended the final suspect connected to the May 8 shooting at Cheers Liquor & Tobacco in Oxford.
According to police, 18-year-old Burtram Donta Carter Jr. of Anniston was arrested in connection with an outstanding warrant for first-degree assault related to the incident. Authorities stated that with Carter’s arrest, all offenders involved in the case have now been apprehended.
The department credited multiple agencies for assisting in the investigation and arrest, including the United States Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the 7th Judicial Major Crimes Unit, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Oxford police officials also recognized the efforts of the department’s Criminal Investigation Division, Special Investigations Unit, Emergency Services Unit, and EMACC personnel for their work throughout the investigation.
In a statement released by the department, officials emphasized that violent crime will not be tolerated within the city and warned that individuals committing violent acts in Oxford will be pursued, arrested, and held accountable.
