Early in the morning on February 14, 2022, Oxford Police Chief, Bill Partridge, advised that officers from his department were involved in a deadly shootout with a suspect. Patrol officers located a vehicle that had been reported as stolen by gunpoint and initiated a pursuit that led them to I-20. During the pursuit the armed suspect began firing on officers as they attempted to stop the vehicle. The pursuit went as far as Airport Road and Hwy 21 when officers were able to return fire killing the shooter on the scene.

Chief Partridge announced that there will be a full press conference at 1:00pm at the Oxford Police Special Operations Building with more details to be released.

Violent crimes have been increasing across the country and the FBI reported that 2021 saw an over 5% increase. The FBI also advised that violent crime against police officers has increased to record highs with 2021 seeing a 50% increase of felonious officer line of duty murders over 2000. Chief Partridge was happy to announce that no Oxford officers were injured during this shootout and pursuit.
