Oxford Post 111 to Host Armed Forces Day Ceremony

Armed Forces Day

Oxford, AL – In honor of Armed Forces Day, Post 111 is set to host a special ceremony on May 18th, paying tribute to the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces. The event, taking place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Dogwood Cemetery in Oxford, Alabama, promises to be a solemn and poignant occasion.

The ceremony will commence with the arrival of the Punishers Motorcycle Club, led by Shawn Ankerich, followed by a Fly-Over performed by the Oxford Police Department helicopter. The Alabama Artillery Group will then mark the beginning of the ceremony with the firing of the starting cannon.

Throughout the event, attendees will be treated to a series of moving performances and presentations. The color guard will present the flags, while the local Girl Scouts will lead the pledge. Amy Moore will deliver stirring songs, including the National Anthem, while the Oxford Honors Choir will perform a rendition of the Armed Forces Medley.

Other highlights of the ceremony include a three-round volley by the Alabama Artillery Group and the haunting strains of Taps, performed by Annie Ingram. The placement of flags on the graves of veterans will be carried out by the General Public, with assistance from the American Legion, who will be providing flags to decorate the headstones.

The event is open to all members of the community who wish to pay their respects to the courageous individuals who have served in the armed forces. It serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by these brave men and women and the debt of gratitude owed to them by all.

Please note that both cemeteries have been marked for flag placement with small white marker flags, ensuring that every veteran’s grave receives due recognition and honor.

The Armed Forces Day ceremony promises to be a fitting tribute to the service and sacrifice of our military personnel, past and present. All are encouraged to attend and participate in this meaningful event.
