Oxford, AL — The Oxford Public Library is excited to announce a special event for book enthusiasts and community members alike. On Monday, June 17th, at 3:00 pm, the library will host its monthly book club featuring acclaimed author Valerie Fraser Luesse. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to discuss Luesse’s latest novel and engage directly with the author.

Luesse’s book, set at the turn of the twentieth century, tells the compelling story of sisters Emmy and Callie Bullock. As daughters of a wealthy Alabama cotton farmer, their lives are seemingly perfect until the arrival of the captivating Lily McGee disrupts their well-ordered household. Innocent yet arrestingly beautiful, Lily inadvertently attracts the wrong kind of attention, setting off a chain of events that will change the sisters’ lives forever.

Bear and Sons

Amidst the turmoil, Callie encounters a man who offers her a chance to break free from societal constraints and discover her true self. The plot thickens when Lily has a baby, and Callie witnesses a mysterious event involving her sister Emmy on a darkened riverbank. With only a hazy memory and an image of Emmy cradling Lily’s missing baby girl, Callie is left questioning what she saw. As the sisters are separated, the truth slowly emerges through their letters, revealing a startling revelation that will shape Callie’s future.

Valerie Fraser Luesse, known for her rich storytelling and intricate character development, will join the book club to share insights into her writing process, character inspirations, and the historical context of her novel. This event promises to be an enriching experience for fans of historical fiction and those interested in Southern literature.

The Oxford Public Library invites all book lovers to come and be part of this special event. Whether you’re a long-time fan of Luesse or new to her work, this is a wonderful opportunity to delve deeper into a fascinating story and connect with an esteemed author.
