Oxford, AL – The Oxford Performing Arts Center will host the inaugural Rubato International Piano Competition Gala Concert on Friday, Aug. 16, at 7:30 p.m. This event marks the beginning of what will be a biennial celebration, featuring performances by medal winners of the prestigious competition.
The gala will serve as a fundraiser for scholarships that will be provided to future participants. Attendees can look forward to stellar performances by 2023 Rubato Gold Medalists: Jordan Anderson from the USA in Jazz, Zhengyi Huang from China in Classical (Ages 19-27), and Matthew Liu from the USA in Classical (Ages 10-18).
“We are honored to have the invaluable support of the prestigious Steinway & Sons, the official piano and sponsor of Rubato since its inception,” said Rubato founder and director Julio Barreto, who also serves as OPAC’s director of music education.
“We envision Rubato as the cornerstone of our future school for the arts in downtown Oxford, working in collaboration with the Oxford Performing Arts Center and our Alabama Children’s Museum, which is currently in the planning stages. Our dream is to establish a prestigious international school of the arts while continuing our partnership with Steinway & Sons for future generations,” Barreto added.
The Oxford Performing Arts Center, located at 100 Choccolocco Street in Historic Downtown Oxford, will be the venue for this special event. Tickets are priced at $15 and can be purchased at oxfordpac.org or directly from the OPAC Box Office.
