Oxford’s Choccolocco Park to Host 2022 AHSAA Baseball State Championships

OXFORD- Tuesday evening the Oxford City Council approved a Championship Venue Agreement between the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), The City of Oxford and Jacksonville State University (JSU) for the State Baseball Championships.

The AHSAA State Baseball Championships will be conducted for 1 A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, and 7A classifications May 16-21, 2022 at Oxford’s Choccolocco Park and Jacksonville State University’s Jim Case Stadium. Tickets will be available for purchase through GoFan, the online ticketing system for the AHSAA.

The term of the Agreement is for one year, commencing on May 16, 2022, and ending on May 21, 2022. The game schedule is below. This is the first time that the AHSAA State Baseball and AHSAA State Softball Championships have been played at the same venue in the same time frame. The AHSAA State Softball Championships, which moved to Oxford from Montgomery in 2021, will also be held at Choccolocco Park May 17-21.

Due to a scheduling conflict with Montgomery’s Riverwalk Stadium, the AHSAA Central Board had to select an alternative site for the upcoming 2022 State Baseball Championships. Montgomery has hosted the event for several years.

Oxford Parks and Recreation Director Don Hudson states, “We are very pleased to be hosting the state baseball championship, as well as the state softball championship at Choccolocco Park. We look forward to working with the schools that will be participation, as well as the Alabama High School Athletic Association.” “When the opportunity to partner with the City of Oxford and Choccolocco Park was presented, it was a no- brainer for us,” says JSU Athletics Director Greg Seitz.
