Oxford, AL – Families across the area are invited to enjoy a day of outdoor fun at the second annual Kids Fishing Rodeo, scheduled for Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Oxford Lake and Park, located next to the Oxford Civic Center at 401 McCullars Lane. The free community event will kick off at 9 a.m. and promises a full day of activities, entertainment, and the thrill of fishing.
Hosted by the City of Oxford and sponsored by Southern Protection Agency, the Kids Fishing Rodeo is designed to bring families together in a fun and welcoming environment. The highlight of the event is the chance for children to fish in Oxford Lake, which will be stocked with 2,000 pounds of farm-raised catfish especially for the occasion.
In addition to fishing, attendees can enjoy free food, bounce houses, and plenty of space to relax and picnic. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, coolers, and fishing gear, including bait, rods, and reels. However, for children who do not have their own supplies, a limited amount of fishing gear will be available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis.
An accessible pavilion will be available for children with special needs who would like to participate in the event.
Oxford Mayor Alton Craft expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s return, reflecting on its success last year: “We watched last year as more than 200 young people enjoyed a day filled with hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream, and the joy of fishing. I and the city council see no negative in hosting such a family-friendly event and are appreciative of all the hard work and generosity of the organizers and sponsors that help make such a great day for our children and their families.”
The City of Oxford invites everyone to mark their calendars and come out for a fun-filled day on the lake, surrounded by community and nature.
