OXFORD — Rankings said Shades Valley is the No. 2 team in Alabama Class 6A boys’ basketball, and Oxford is No. 5.

The scoreboard said something else after their Area 11 showdown at Oxford on Saturday.

Marcus Perry Jr. let the way with 19 points, and Oxford throttled Shades Valley 70-41 on Larry Davidson Court in the first of their two regular-season area clashes.

They play again at Shades Valley on Jan. 21.

Oxford improved to 15-4 with its 12th win in 13 games, while Shades Valley fell to 16-4.

Oxford’s girls (11-8) also won their area opener before the boys’ game, beating Shades Valley 58-50 as Bri Wilson led three Yellow Jackets in double figures with 20 points.
