Piedmont City Council Approves Operational Expenses, Paving Projects, and Departmental Purchases at Regular Meeting

Piedmont, AL – During the Regular meeting, Mayor Baker informed the Council of the operational expenses for the past three weeks we’re $1,063,333.21 which included three weeks of payroll. The bills were approved for payment.

The Council then approved the yearly $10,000 payment to Centre- Piedmont -Cherokee County Regional Airport Authority.

Next on the agenda, was the City of Piedmont bid tabulation for both the Chief Ladiga Trail Repaving and Street Repaving. The Council was informed the Contractor, Vulcan Paving gave a quote of $189,328. City Clerk Hinton informed the Council that the Gas Tax will pick up $100,000 of the city street bill. The City of Piedmont would owe the remaining balance. Also, the Council discussed paving on other streets at a later date and $250,000 would come out of the Gas Tax. Both of these items were approved. Next up, the Council moved on to discuss the repaving of the trail. A quote came in at $925,084.00. Clerk Hinton Informed the Council the City of Piedmont would owe $36,449.62. The remainder would come from specific grants they would apply towards the balance. This was also approved by the Council.

The purchase of three trucks for the Electrical Department was approved and the purchase will be at a later date. The funding for these vehicles will be through Alabama Municipal Electric Association.

Clerk Hinton, informed the Council there was an opening with an employee leaving the Water, Gas, Sewer department to work with the Street and Sanitation Department. They need to be proactive and hire another individual as a replacement. This was approved unanimously.

Mayor Baker, informed the Council much work has been going on at the Fagan Park. They will be purchasing new basketball nets and backboards with AMA Grant money. Also, a business owner is going to open the restaurant which has been closed for some time. The City will charge her $500.00 a month in rent. In the rental agreement it was specified the operator of the restaurant will be responsible for any break downs of equipment.

The next City of Piedmont Council Meeting will be on August 20th.
