Piedmont, AL – During the Tuesday afternoon Piedmont City Council meeting, Mayor Bill Baker informed the Council the operational expenses for the past two weeks were $675,877.96 which included two weeks of payroll. The bills were approved for payment.
The Council discussed three different resolutions in which all were different locations that the grass needed to be cut and other cleanup situations. Another resolution was the City of Piedmont to declare 46 items listed as surplus property to be listed on Gov Deals. The Council adopted all four resolutions.
Next on the agenda, Mayor Baker addressed the Council about the City of Piedmont to support the Calhoun/Cleburne County Drug and Violent Task Force in the amount of $5,000 for the past fiscal year, which was approved.
The Council was informed about two job positions within the city. The first is a utility office position in which a third person is needed as soon as possible and also a library position. Both were approved unanimously by Council.
Police Chief Nathan Johnson was not in attendance, but this was his Police Report for July. The Piedmont Police had a total of 52 arrests on 51 Misdemeanor charges and 9 Felony charges. There were 35 total Abatement cases.
Interim Fire Chief Cale Donaldson gave the Fire Report for July. There were 71 incidents.
City Clerk Carl Hinton informed the Council there will be an increase from Waste Management for the City of Piedmont effective September 1, 2024.
Mayor Baker thanked everyone that pitched in with cleanup and hard work with the past week’s storms around the city.
The next City of Piedmont Council Meeting will be September 2nd.
